Back in August, I made a post stating that I've decided to get a Miata. Travis Okulski commented on it saying "good choice!" I said that it'll take me a couple years but its been four months and.... I bought it.
To be honest, I had some money already saved up and I borrowed a little from a relative. After searching endlessly and taking up another job to save the money, I finally bought this 1994 (as old as me) with the C - Package (tan leather interior and whole bunch of other options including a Torsen LSD!). I bought it for what I think is a fair price, $3800, with 100,200 miles.
It has a bad airbag module and the leather seats are ripped in some places. Plan on getting those fixed and replaced by summer.
All I can say is I'm in love with it and the way it drives. RWD FTW!
So, I'm an official Jalop now, right?
Also wondering who else here has a Miata?

I need that in my life, at $3800, I can make that happen I think. How long and hard did you hunt for this one? (aside from endlessly)

Wow that's a nice Miata! Love the color combo with the tan leather seats, and it has pretty low mileage. 1994 was the best year if you ask most Miata guys—1.8 with real oil pressure gauge but still with OBD1. Nice find!

I don't have one (yet) but I'm really happy for you, that one looks nice! Welcome to the RWD club. We're the manliest of clubs ;)

CONGRATS! I think you got a fair deal as well. Car looks really good!

Don't have one yet, but I am looking for one. It's going to be my track toy and fun car that will see the mods and get thrashed on the track in place of my new Focus ST. Nice pick up btw, looks like you got a good one!

I'm actually looking for one after my E46. Or an old RX7 that I can 5.0 swap

Welcome to the club! You got a pretty good deal on it. Just remember to throw away that ugly front license plate bracket if your state only requires a rear plate!

Congrats! Nice Price
That's a great color combo, and everybody likes pop ups! Pity about that badge, though. The mid 90's flame badges always look weird. You should just drop an oppo sticker right over it!

Nice, sounds like a solid deal, good choice on going with a C-package car. Don't worry about the airbag module, ditch the ugly stock steering wheel for a Momo or Nardi and don't look back.
Is that an NJ temp plate? I'm also in NJ. Here's my NA:

Yeah I bought it in NJ but I live in NY! Beautiful car!
Definitely considering a Nardi wheel, I'll look into Momo.

In NY, need to have front licence plate :/

Haha, well I basically searched everyday to the point where I knew every one of them (around my area at least meaning some of NY, all of NJ, CT, RI, and PA) and then I hid all the ones I didn't want (mainly 90-93 because I wanted one with a Torsen LSD and anything that's rusted which made my search very difficult) and all the riced ones until I searched once a week.
Stumbled across this one week before I bought it (on Saturday). I'd say a new one pops up once or twice a month.

Haha, yeah I don't really like that badge. Eternal flame AKA toilet seat. I want a Eunos badge:
I found one for like $80 and I'm not willing to buy that yet. Maybe when I have nothing else to do to the car.
I'll get an Oppo sticker to put on one of the triangle windows :)

Keep an eye on eBay UK auctions, I snagged one last week for $15 including shipping to the US

Personally, I'd want the RX7 that came before that one, which is about 300-400 lbs lighter and smaller. Like a makeshift AC Cobra. But thanks for scoping that one out.
I have yet to drive a Miata, so I'd like to see it's quick enough as is, then I might just buy one.

Cool, I live in NJ and work in NY. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything, I've owned a couple Miatas and know them quite well.

Thank you so much!
I'll ask the first question which has been eating my brain. You probably know it's snowing here in NY right now. I'm not gonna be driving the car today except to work later on. Since this car is rust free, how can I keep it that way?
Will getting the underbody washed once a week be enough? I don't know a place right now that does undercoating.

I had a buddy with a '94 M-edition and I'm still kicking myself over not buying it. Just like I'm still kicking myself, on occasion, for selling my FC convertible... Needed too much work, but still...
Though I don't have one of my own, I do come from a Miata-driving family... At least I have an aunt who has had one NA, an early NB, late NB and two NCs, so far..

Most of the rust you see on the rockers happens due to clogged soft top drains; make sure those are clear and you should be fine. If you do have to drive in the snow or salt, try to rinse the underside as often as possible.
However, the best way to keep it completely rust-free would be to garage it for the winter lol

Also if the weatherstripping on your doors is bad, water will get into the door. When I bought mine, the door drainage was clogged and during rainy season, and I was straight up driving around with like a gallon of water in each door. Solved this by unfolding a paper clip and prodding up into the door drainage holes (these are somewhere along the very edges of the underbody). I remember watching water bleed out for five minutes straight.

Congrats on the buy! If my sense of the Miata market is still intact, you got a pretty decent deal.
You also got one of my favorite combos... I don't see too many black/tan. There's one in the area on the factory 14" BBS and it looks great (hint: get some 14" BBS).
I also have a Miata, a '93 C-Package.

I used to have a '94 M-Edition. I sold it because baby; still miss it :(

Extra nice, good price, you'll have fun or your money back. By which I mean I'd pay $3800 for a '94 with 100K if you decide you'd prefer an SUV or something.

Haha, nice try but I plan on keeping this baby for a long time. Maybe even forever. When there's a will, there's a way.
Kind of how I got this car!

Sounds like you got a good deal - and welcome to the club! I bought my first Miata when I was 19 as well. 10 years later and still a Miata owner!
